 Christmas Memories

Christmas is such a special time.
A time to remember the past,
The things we did to prepare for Christmas,
Memories that will always last.

I remember walking in the forest,
To find that special Christmas tree.
The fun we had walking with excitement,
Happy with Christmas glee.

Not just any tree would do,
It had to be just so.
The right height for the room,
So all the lights would show.

The tinsel was bright and shiny,
The lights were all aglow,
Gifts all wrapped up in Christmas paper,
And pretty shiny bows.

Mom was in the kitchen,
Baking all her special treats,
Each one their special dish,
To make the meal complete.

I still remember, the applesauce cake,
The aroma was so sweet.
But the fresh coconut cake,
Was my favorite treat.

There was a fruity jello salad,
With apples, oranges and nuts,
That gave the coconut cake
That special added touch.

We always had goose and dressing,
And giblet gravy too,
And of course the cranberry sauce,
To leave that out, why, that would never do.

Mom always planned for us,
Each one their favorite dish,
Of course the coconut cake,
Would always be my pick.

At the close of Christmas day,
We’d gathered round to sing.
Songs of gratitude and thankfulness,
To our provider, Lord and King.
