Thanksgiving Dinner

If I might set a Thanksgiving table for you
What beauty shall I share,
Of such delight to bless your heart
Oh, what loveliness prepare.

Might I choose my special lacy linen
Of most delicate design,
A pure foundation for our meal
To build upon divine.

Entwine abundant centre piece
Of candles, cones and blooms,
Created by the hand of God
A warm glow for the room.

Glasses overflowing fruits of joy
To sparkle in the light,
Lemon slices, cherries sweet
Your taste buds to delight.

Silver spoons and forks and knives
And golden cream, each plate and bowl,
Imagine then each tasty treat
All trays and platters hold.

Fragrance wafting, breathe the air
From baking, roast and grille,
The pumpkin pies and cornbread
Cooling 'pon each sill.

The door bell rings, I bid you come
Then hang your hat and coat,
With warmth of heart, welcome you in
To join the thankful folk.

There set, your chair, to chat with all
Laughter, freely flow,
And safe we'd be, like heaven's home
Protected from all foe.

With grateful heart we'd praise our God
For days of life and love,
With prayerful heart to pray for those
Who live where danger guns.

In grave concern, we'd seek the Lord,
His will for days ahead,
For blessings past, His power yet
Portrayed in blood He shed.

The Father there, would read The Word
The love of God alone,
A Psalm of David, lift our souls
Assuring of The Lord we know.

A time we'd spend in songs of praise
To lift our spirits high,
Each favorite hymn, a gift to give
As voices harmonize.

And how our hearts would warm with joy
As together, one in heart,
Each child we'd hug and treasure close
A blessing to impart.

The babies near, all sleeping sweet
Just there within our gaze,
Their dimples, softness, innocence
The hope of future days.

The children we would gladly show,
Enjoy old fashioned games,
And we would smile and reminisce
The walk down memory lane.

We'd play for fun, a guessing game
And where, if I was tiny, hide,
I'd watch your eyes a-sparkling
When my secret place you'd find.

Then I would say, beneath your seat
I have taped for you a gift,
And you would look and open it
And whisper 'thank you' with your lips.

And then to each, we'd turn with thoughts
Of how they are so dear,
Expressing love and joy to them
So glad for us they're here.

Our coffee sipped with dinner mints
Connected heart to heart,
Holding tight this hour, with joy
As memory to last.

The time would slip e'er slowly by
Then suddenly would end,
And then we'd know would surely close
This night with kith and kin.

So we would turn and hug each one
And bless them for the year,
Plant a kiss upon each cheek
To say, be gone all fear.

Then we would rise, a circle form
And clasp each hand with love,
To thank our God, in Him we live
How very soon....He comes.

Poetry from the Heart

For this reason I kneel before the Father,
from whom His whole family in Heaven
and on Earth derives its name.
I pray that out of His glorious riches He may
strengthen you with power through His Spirit
in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell
in your hearts through faith.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established
in love, may have power, together with all the
saints to grasp how wide and long and high and
deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love
that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled
to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more
than all we ask or imagine, according to His power
that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the
Church and in Christ Jesus through all
generations for ever and ever! Amen
"That we may know HIS love that surpasses all
knowledge and understanding and be filled with
the fullness of GOD" Ephesians 3:14-21
