A Fireman's Tribute

Sweltering heat...
Consuming fires,
Fighting the flames,
For hours and hours.

No rest for the weary,
Continuing on,
Waiting and watching,
‘Till all flames are gone.

Some hearing the screams,
Of torture and fear,
While racing for time,
A last breath draws near.

Heroic and brave,
These firemen go forth,
Going into battle,
They’ll conquer the force.

Fire engines are wailing,
Hear their ominous refrains?
Racing for time,
Not one soul complains.

Flames leaping and dancing,
Smoke thick in the air,
Soon smolder and sputter
And give up in despair.

No praise do they ask,
No glory or fame.
Simply a “Thank You,”
Get to know them by name.

Thank God for our firemen,
Let us never forget,
To pray for our men
Who live to protect.
