"Indian Maiden"

Such a beautiful Indian Maiden
Dressed in beads and colors, so bright
With many chores, you seem laden
Creating such an interesting sight

Watching you walk, slowly along
Baskets, heavy upon your shoulder
Lovely, Yet...life’s many lessons
Make you appear, wise and older

Life is so hard, day by day
You dream, as you think on life
Perhaps...A special Indian Brave
Will soon, take you for his wife

Like the sounds of rushing waters
Heart pounding, with thoughts at hand
Your love is great for your people
And Forefathers, dwelling in sacred land

You listen to the distant drums
As you talk to the "Great Spirit"
Looking so, toward the beyond
Yet, at times....You almost fear it

Your people, who mean so much
For them, you feel so insecure
With ambushes, attacks and such
Young Braves, trying to even the score

But you believe, in your tradition
Your eyes are set to the "Great One"
Your faith is strong , set in position
As you trust in Spirit..... and Sun

I watch you pass, as distant drums beat
So very sure, in each step you take
Requests, in faith, The Spirit will meet
You and the Tribes, He'll not forsake!
